同校の審査結果の発表は4月上旬に（出願者全員へ）送られます。他校の審査プロセスにみられるような、その都度審査結果が発表される（審査）プロセスとは異なります。そうした点も理解しつつ、自らの出願時期を決めていきましょう。

Applicants to Duke Law’s LLM, SJD and exchange programs may begin submitting applications for the 2018-2019 academic year on September 1, 2017. The application deadline is January 20, 2018.

9月1日から2018年1月20日の間での出願が可となりますが、同校への志望度により年内に出願することも（もちろん）可能です。また同校への出願はLSAC以外にDuke Law専用の願書（application form)で出願できます。Harvardのように独自の願書で出願しなければならないケース、Dukeのようにいずれからのシステムで出願できるケースなどをよくよく踏まえた上で、この時期から年内までの出願スケジュールを見直してはいかがでしょうか。

Applications are accepted for the 2018–2019 academic year from August 1 to December 1, 2017, at 11:59 p.m., U.S. Eastern Time. The December 1 deadline should be understood as the date by which all documents that applicants are required to submit must be received by the Law School Admission Council (LSAC). We require all applicants to the LL.M. program to submit their applications online through LSAC’s Electronic Application Service.

◆ Personal Statement (Essay)
Your Personal Statement should address both of the following questions specifically, with Part (A) constituting at least half　of　the total length:

(A) Briefly describe either an important issue in your field of interest or a current legal problem facing a particular country,　region, or the world, and then propose a theoretical framework or a legal analysis or strategy to address this issue.

(B) Please tell us something about yourself — in particular, why you wish to pursue an LL.M. degree at Harvard and how doing so connects with what you have done in the past and what you plan to do in the future.

◆ TOEFL
A high level of English language proficiency is a requirement for admission. All applicants from non-English-speaking countries who did not do their basic legal education entirely in the English language must take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) within two years prior to submitting their applications. The Harvard Law School Graduate Program requires a score of at least 100 on the Internet-based test (IBT), with at least 25 in each of the four subsections.

まだこの時期はPersonal Statement (Essay)の準備どころではない。。。という出願者も多いことかと察します。LL.M.出願にあたってはGREやLSATといったテスト受験は不要ですので、まずは出願時に使用するTOEFLスコアを揃えることに注力していきましょう。

合格に必要な要素

この時期は1月や2月の締切日で出願された受験生が世界各国で面接試験を受ける一方で、嬉しいお知らせ（合格報告）も届き始めております。

自身で納得がいくスコアを取ることで、気持ちと時間に余裕が生まれ、レジュメ、エッセイ、推薦状の質を向上させるために労力を注ぎ、出願先の関係者との交流にも熱が入り、そうした経験がエッセイやインタビュー用コンテンツに反映されます。このように、各対策項目を点ではなく線で捉えて準備を進めていくためは、モチベーション、気持ちの切り替えといった心理的要素も鍵を握っていると思います。

International Law

The new dual-degree program with the University of St. Gallen will allow students to earn both a master of laws degree in international law (LL.M) from Fletcher and a master’s degree in international law (MIL) from St. Gallen after 18 months to two years of study, depending on course selection. The program started accepting students this fall.

St. Gallen specializes in law, business and international affairs. The executive director of Fletcher’s LL.M Program, John Burgess, has taught at both schools and helped create the new program, in which students will study at both institutions.

The Law Tech program is an integral part of the new academic model at Cornell Tech, where education and research are closely tied to creating and expanding companies and industries. As a student, you’ll have unique collaboration opportunities on campus, as well as with New York-based companies in the tech industry.

For foreign-trained students, the Tech LLM will not by itself qualify graduates to sit for the New York State bar examination; but, by undertaking a semester of additional coursework at Cornell’s Ithaca campus, foreign-trained students who desire to do so can satisfy the requirements to sit for the bar.

Who should apply?

Ideal candidates for the LLM degree at Cornell Tech are already-practicing attorneys or recent law graduates who possess strong academic or professional credentials, as well as an active interest in technology and entrepreneurship.
